Dave, I love everything you write. I’m constantly sharing your LinkedIn posts with friends because they are all on point. Thank you for doing what you do.
Dave – I absolutely love your take on abundance being rooted in playing offense. there's something unfamiliar about cultivating agency in Asian American culture and it's beautiful to see all the reference points throughout your essay :)
Been trying to figure out this myself, you articulated it so well! Thanks for taking the time to write this, it's you're hoping this would have a pround effect on many people, you've got one here!
Thank you for what you do for our community. Truly inspired by your articles and the wisdom you share! As someone who is going through a challenging period due to some setbacks from the scarcity mentality, I want to be actively determined to take actions in my life to start shifting my mindset and convert these takeaways into tangible experiences.
This resonates a lot. I loved this - thank you for sharing the unspoken fear of failure and self-sabotaging voice that I've had to unlearn and know many of my peers have as well.
Wonderful piece that resonates in so many ways. This is worth multiple reads for all the nuggets of advice. Thank you for the time you took to share your wisdom and uplift the community.
I definitely feel echoes of this in my own life. That’s coming from a British Nigerian. Funny how universal aspects of these are. Thank you for the essay.
Wow. This is an incredibly thought provoking and inspiring piece. It prompted me to self-reflect and realize that even though I’m a 4th generation Asian-American, a lot of the characteristics that you described were reminiscent of the younger me, and I grew in a business setting once I strayed from that mold!

While many contribute individually to society, there's a collective call to unite, amplify our influence, and foster positive change, promising a hopeful future. The Texas Asian community's resolute efforts against SB 147 are commendable, acknowledging its significant impact. The first generation operates in survival mode, hoping the second pursues happiness, and the third inherits a mindset of security and control. It's not about perfection or failure but striving to be the best. Ultimately, parents wish for their children's safety, health, and happiness.
Dave, I agree with how you've framed Asians within Corporate America and wanted to add that the scarcity mindset is reinforced repeatedly through the education system where the best independent school in town may only have 18 spots per Kindergarten and Asian quotas at Ivy League schools has stayed the same for decades. Of course these are not prerequisites to success but can certainly feel that way if your aperture of the world is limited.
So many great points, and worded in a way that I think can help my peers understand more about me as a Taiwanese-American. Thank you for putting your heart and soul into what you do!
