This resonates 💯 especially for our Asian American community - we need to focus more on relationship and community building rather than keeping our heads down, grinding away. Thanks for another great post!
Great post. Reid Hoffman is the embodiment of much of what you say. He’s nurtured, supported, and connected thousands if not tens of thousands of people…myself included. Truly the living embodiment of LinkedIn (When I worked at LNKD, there used to be a wizard would appear on one of the 404 or other “hidden” pages. I reflexively saw Reid in that image. The Wizard of LinkedIn :)
I’ve always been connecting clients who are good match for one another based on their interests, industries, etc. But I rarely expand outside of that work related circle. What you said makes sense. For example, I received help when I came across this useful app and great articles through a random post by someone in my network. Thanks for your great advice. I find your posts truly helpful as I explore possibilities and priorities in life.
It can totally feel exhausting because you’re the one doing all the work, but remember that makes you the hub and the most essential person at your dinner parties!
This is a great post! As a generation zero, who had no ties when I came to the US (no relatives, friends, etc.) I absolutely concur with you on this. In college, I thought talent will get me to the forefront, but now as an entrepreneur, I realize how crucial it is to create a network, be of value to other, be generous with my time. I am constantly expanding my ways to network with the right people and plan to run my own VC fund soon. Dave, you've been a great inspiration with a strong viewpoint on matters that hit home for me and my journey (immigrant mindset and network effects). Thank you!

LOVE that! He seems like he would be an amazing connection to have!

I am also an extrovert, and reading this gave me inspiration to continue to host dinner parties in ny!
I'm usually the "glue" of my friend groups. I do all the hosting work and do have tons of relationships, but it can be exhausting at times.
